Tradition and Customs look to the future with pride in the past ...
Lagos grew up looking out to sea, and it still has a great fishing tradition even today. However, Lagos has spread its wings beyond the possibilities offered by the Oceans, moving into the making of products that are known throughout the world.
Agriculture, wild products, wine, honey, “medronho” (a local spirit made from the fruits of a regional tree) and the regional sweets, for example the famous D. Rodrigo and almond and fig sweets, form a part of the rich heritage that have made this area famous.
There is an abundance of handicrafts - wicker or palm leaf basketwork, pottery, ceramics, lace and tapestry work, wooden, stone and iron artefacts – all made with skills handed down from generation to generation. This is borne out at the 15th Century Fair that is held every year in Lagos, showing customs from the time of the discoveries, and where everyone dresses in clothes of the time and you can try for yourself 15th Century food. This is also a great opportunity to visit Lagos.
